About the Class
Phil Eherenman teaches the Food for Life Diabetes Prevention and Treatment cooking and nutrition class in Anchorage at Providence Family Medicine Center. Preregistration is required and is available by clicking on the above Eventbite tab.
The price for this 7-week class series is $175, making it $25 per class.
Sponsored by PCRM (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), this Food for Life Diabetes Cooking and Nutrition Class is a community-based, national program designed by health care professionals to aid people with diabetes to learn about the power of food to improve their health and wellness. Launched in 2009, the Food for Life Diabetes Nutrition and Cooking Class is designed to bring a new, research-based, easy-to-follow approach to help people with diabetes in two significant ways:
- avoid preventable complications from the disease
- to reduce the need for medication(s).
Designed by physicians, diabetes educators, registered dietitians, and professional chefs, the goals of this program are to empower people with diabetes with information on how food choices promote, prevent, and treat type 2 diabetes and practical cooking skills for healthy and delicious meal preparation.
Each 2½-hour class includes a nutrition video and discussion, followed by a cooking demonstration of 4 or 5 different foods. Attendees then have the opportunity to taste the food prepared in class and take home the recipes.
